Time Abroad

To stress on one of the main targets—the building up of experts for the Asian, Western and Eastern European region—all MBA students have a six weeks blocked time abroad in the beginning of the 2nd semester.

Due to their chosen focus, the participants visit either the MBA partner university in Taiwan or Russia. Students can use this intensive study period to learn and to live in direct contact with the foreign culture and to collect precious international experiences. In daily lessons, the module units 4 “Business Language II” and 5 “Doing Business in Asia or Central and Eastern Europe” are performed there.

Focus Asia

> Shih Chien University, Kaohsiung/ Taiwan

MBA students with the Asian focus visit the Shih Chien University Taiwan, Kaohsiung Campus. The university was founded in 1958; in 2001, it established the college of management with 14 departments. The university counts about 5,000 students, and has a strong scientific background by a staff of 150 instructors. The campus is located about 50 km from Kaohsiung, which is the second largest city in the south of Taiwan. Furthermore it has the third largest harbour in the world.

The students will receive a student ID for their time at the campus. They will be accommodated on the cam-
pus in single rooms or 4-bed rooms (the student decide
his accommodation). A cafeteria is also for free access.
The intensive course period of module 4 and 5 is organized by a well trained local staff. To en-
sure a high qualified curricular period, the module coordinator Mrs Marion Winter (Modules 1
and 4) will accompany the students to Taiwan and will be available at any time for possible
problems and questions. Students will appreciate this blocked time to get to know the Asian
mentality, culture and behaviours. Many common events and visits will enrich the program to
a unforgotten experience.

A detailed information sheet including curricular plan, campus, accommodation, meals, insu-
rance and further important items is handed out to students in the beginning of the study program.

Focus Central and Eastern Europe

> Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics, Moscow/ Russia

According to the course structure, students with the Central and Eastern European focus will visit the Plekhanov Russian Academy in Moscow. It was founded in 1907 and became the first and only uni-
versity in Russia whose main subjects of study were
economics, trade and commerce. Today the acade-
my is one of the largest and most prestigious Russi-
an universities with about 12,000 students.

The Plekhanov diploma is certified by the UNESCO, which implies the high quality standard of
the partner university.

The Plekhanov University will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2007. Within the Academy, the
Plekhanov Graduate School is an active department proposing six different tracks plus specific
programmes. More than 300 students are enrolled in one of the two-year programmes in 2005.

The capital Moscow itself has a lot of immense figures. With 12 million inhabitants, it is the big-
gest city in Europe. About 130 different nationalities live there. The city contributes a share of
30% to the total Russian GDP.

Like their Asian colleges, students will have full student status and will have the chance to be-
come part of an unforgetable time abroad. A detailed information sheet including curricular
plan, campus, accommodation, meals, insurance and further important items is handed out to
students in the beginning of the study program.
